Manip Academy 15: Landscapes with haze
Hey everyone!
In this issue I would like to share a few tips with you for blending objects (e.g., a castle) into a distant landscape. The point is to consider the surroundings and the lighting conditions of the original landscape photo to make it appear as realistic as possible.
It is just a guide and requires some preknowledge of Photoshop, but I hope it is helpful anyway.

Softening Effects
In today’s Manip Academy blog I’m going to teach you how to achieve a softening effect with your photomanipulations. This is a trick that I often use, especially for fantasy and emotional style pieces.
NOTE: When I do this technique it is usually my finishing step, so my image is duplicated and my layers are already merged.
Step One: Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. I usually set the Rad

Parallelism
One of the most important things I use in my work is about “Parallelism and Symmetry”. These subjects are related with the order of the elements in a composition, the layout of resources. A parallel and symmetric use of elements in a composition produces and effective transmission to the view; it expresses an easy comprehension of direction.
The use of geometric forms to order the elements in your comp

Manip Academy 3: Using shadows on reliefs
Sorry about the title, the original phrase was too large to fit on the title area. it was supposed to be "Using shadows to highlight reliefs"
"
Making shadows correctly is one of the most important things to give te sensation of depth and reliefs in your Works. Soft shadows can be more effective than most consistent and well-defined shadows. Look at the difference in these pictures.
But remember, when the source light is near the element, depending also on the intensity of the light, the shadows get more intense and marked. So, try Always to use that correctly. In this case, the source light is not Strong and also far from the sphere.

Perspective
Here is a little bit about finding the right size of characters in the perspective of the scene.
For example, one of the thousands of my unfinished work "Resurrection." The image below will guide you.
1. Select the background and characters of the scene
2. Hold the line of the horizon and set the first character, which is built according to the scene. Join in the triangle height of human growth and the point of intersection with the horizon (the green triang

Manip Academy 6 : How to adjust a fire's color
This trick will help you blend a fire stock to fit the colors and the atmosphere of your photomanipulation.
To do so, we are going to use Alpha Channels and Adjustment Layers.
To understand this tip you should already know how to create layers and how to use masks.
The first step will be to remove the black background that comes with most fire stocks you will find.
Some of you may already know you can apply blending modes to your layer to make that black background disappear.
It's the easiest and fastest way to blend a fire... but with this technique, you won't be able to modify your fire's aspect (or your background will re-appear) ! So yo

Blending modes and photomanipulations
Few words about most used blending modes (bm), how they affect the image (positive and negative moments).
First of all I want to remind about the option of creating layer filled with neutral colour for chosen blending mode. Holding Alt press icon "create a new layer", Photoshop will show you window like this:
Just select desired bm and check "fill with ... neutral color". Sometimes it's very helpful.
Second, when you use blending modes for toning fo

Manip Academy 7: Post-production atmosphere
Article by Aegis-Illustration (https://www.deviantart.com/aegis-illustration)
Post-production is one of the key points on producing an image. You can spend hours finding the right model, atrezzo, composition, mixing everything up... But if you forget about giving the right atmosphere to your artworks, you're missing one of the key points: to give an atmosphere to what you are creating.
Creating atmospheres is something very personal and each one of us have a way to achieve that, but there are some basic techniques I'd like to share with you all. I encourage you to take them as a starting point and then discover your own depending on your personal style. Here we go!
